Robert David Reed (born October 9, 1956) is a Hugo Award winning American science fiction author. He has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Reed is a prolific genre short-fiction writer with over a hundred and forty published stories. His work regularly appears in Asimov's, Fantasy & Science Fiction, and Sci Fiction. He has also published eleven novels.
Reed lives in Lincoln, Nebraska.

In addition to his 2007 win, Robert Reed has had six other stories nominated for the Hugo Award. For Best Short Story: "The Utility Man" (in 1991), "Decency" (1997), "Whiptail" (1999), and "Eight Episodes" (2007). For Best Best Novelette: "Hexagons" (2004). For Best Novella: "Marrow" (1998).
He was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novella for "Chrysalis" in 1997.
He was nominated for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in Science Fiction in 1987.
