Dr. Robert Lado (1915 - December 11, 1995) graduated from Rollins College, received a masters degree in linguistics education from the University of Texas, was Professor of Linguistics at Georgia State university, founded the Georgetown University School of Languages and Linguistics in 1960, was Dean of Georgia State university from 1961 to 1973, wrote more than 100 articles and close to 60 books on languages and linguistics, founded Lado International College in 1973, establish English departments at five universities in Spain, did volunteer work at the Spanish Catholic Center in Washington, Received the medal of honor of the Daughters of the American Revolution of the District of Columbia and was one of the founders of TESOL. The Robert Lado Memorial Award for Outstanding Student Paper award is named after him.
