Robert J. Dolan was sworn in as Mayor of Melrose Massachusetts on January 7, 2002. Upon graduating from Melrose High School, Rob went on to receive his BA in Political Science from Fordham University in New York City. From there he received his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from Northeastern University. In 2003, Rob completed his certificate in Municipal Governance and Policy at the Rappaport Institute at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.
Professionally, Rob’s interests have been in Geriatric Health Care Administration and housing. Upon graduation Rob served as Supervisor of Case Management of Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop Elder Services. Managing case managers and clients, he got a first hand look at the operations and funding of vital community based programs like Meals on Wheels, Title 3 Transportation, CDBG, home health aide service, and general case management.
From CRW Home Care, Rob joined the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) team as the Housing and Community Services Director. At EBNHC, Rob coordinated the development of three abandoned properties into HUD Section 202 housing with supportive services for Boston elders and disabled. Coordinating through the EBNHC PACE (Program for All Inclusive Care for Elders) this supportive housing has been a model for other national programs as an answer for “affordable assisted living.” Leaving EBNHC in 1999, Rob became Assistant Executive Director at Parkside, a Chicago-based private development firm specializing in assisted living and retirement community development and consulting. Working throughout the area Rob specialized in operations and start up development.
Rob begins his eleventh year of public service to the citizens of Melrose. He served from 1994-98 on the Melrose School Committee , serving as Vice Chairman 1996-98. From 1998-02 he served on the Board of Aldermen as Alderman At Large. He served as President of the Board in 2001. In November 2001 he was elected Mayor of Melrose. Rob and his wife, Alison (Wilson) Dolan reside in Melrose and have a son.
