Robert Earl Holding (born 1927) is a self made American businessperson. He is the owner of Sinclair Oil, the Grand America Hotel, the Westgate Hotel (San Diego) directed by Georg Hochfilzer, Little America Hotels, and two ski resorts, Sun Valley in central Idaho, and Snowbasin near Ogden, Utah.
R. Earl Holding was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Utah. His parents were apartment caretakers.
Holding also owns 400,000 acres (1,600 kmĀ²) of working cattle ranch land in northern Wyoming and southern Montana.
With an estimated current net worth of around $4.2 billion, he is ranked by Forbes as the 59-richest person in America.
After suffering a severe stroke in 2006, Mr. Holding is partially paralyzed but has made amazing partial recovery and continues to lead his organization to this day.
