[edit] Athletics
Midland Lee High School is particularly known for its football program. In the late 1990s and in 2000, Midland Lee won three consecutive 5A state football championships, the first school to ever accomplish that feat (Southlake Carroll High School has since won three consecutive 5A titles, in 2004-2006). The 1999 season marked an undefeated national championship awarded by the Associated Press. In the span of those three years Midland Lee went 43-3. The Rebels were led by tailback Cedric Benson and coach John Parchman. The Rebels are still a successful 5-A team, perennially battling their archrivals, the Odessa Permian Panthers and the Midland High Bulldogs for the district 3-5A title. Starting in the 2008 football season, Midland Lee will compete in district 2-5A with the schools from Lubbock, Amarillo, Odessa, Midland, and San Angelo Central.
