"Robert De Niro's Waiting..." is a song written and recorded by English girl group Bananarama. It was the second single released from their self-titled second album in 1984.
At the time of the track's release, the members of Bananarama were receiving a lot of criticism from the UK music press, who labelled the trio as a "cover versions" band whose producers and writers controlled their output. "Robert De Niro's Waiting..." was one of several tracks on the Bananarama album which tackled more serious lyrical topics. The "talking Italian" line in the chorus, however, was added by producer Steve Jolley to give the song a more "pop" feel and Bananarama members Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Keren Woodward "hated" it, but eventually kept the line in to end the arguments about it [1].
As a result of the song's popularity, the group eventually met with actor Robert De Niro who contacted them after hearing it.
The single is one of the group's strongest performing releases, peaking at number three in the UK singles chart (the single to date stands in a three-way tie as Bananarama's highest-charting UK hit). It made a brief appearance on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number ninety-five.
Bananarama re-recorded the song with Latin instrumentation on their 2001 album Exotica.
