Robert Benoit is a Canadian musician born in Stephenville Crossing on October 13, 1957 and raised in West Bay Centre on the Port-au-Port peninsula of Newfoundland. Benoit grew up in the rich musical traditions of the west coast of Newfoundland.

At the age of 18 years, Benoit and his father, Mattis Benoit, recorded an album, Atlantic Accordion, with the help of Johnny Burke and Eastwind.

Benoit was a member of the Carlton Showband for a number of years along with his uncle, Roddie Lee (LePrieur), and his brother, Larris Benoit. It was said of the Carlton Showband that "[i]f you can sit through that without tapping your toes, without a smile coming to your lips, without a lump coming to your throat - you're clinically dead."[1] Benoit played the guitar and fiddle with the Carlton Showband, touring extensively throughout Canada and the United States and recording a number of albums, until the group disbanded in 1996. In addition, Benoit performed with Graham and Eleanor Townsend, Kelli Trottier, Harry Hibbs, Roy Payne, Anna McGoldrick and John Allan Cameron.

Benoit retired to Oakwood, Ontario (near Lindsay) in 1999 and is now teaching guitar, fiddle, mandolin, drums, bass, accordion and tenor banjo. He continues to write and produce music and performs from time to time, often with his brother, Larris.
