Robert Asher (1919-1979) was a British film director.

[edit] Film career
British director Robert Asher began his career as an assistant director in 1934, working under filmmakers including Anthony Pelissier, Robert Hamer, and Roy Ward Baker Asher; and worked during World War II on films such as When We Are Married (1943), Medal for the General (1944), and Waltz Time (1945).
Asher moved to become fully fledged director in 1959 starting with the Norman Wisdom comedy film Follow a Star (1959) when he replaced John Paddy Carstairs as the helmsman of the Wisdom films concluding in 1966 with Press for Time. The 1965 comedy films The Intelligence Men and The Early Bird were some of his most famous and successful films. He also directed the 1960 crime caper farce Make Mine Mink (1960).

By the late 60s his film work had dried up, and Asher moved into television directing episodes of a number of ITC productions. He directed episodes for popular cult series such as The Avengers The Champions, and The Saint. Asher also worked on a single episode of cult classic The Prisoner ("It's Your Funeral") in 1967.
