Robert A. Welch Foundation

Founded in 1954, Robert A. Welch Foundation is a non-profit organization which seeks to advance chemistry research, especially in the State of Texas. It is named for Robert Alonzo Welch, an industrialist whose will provided the funds to setup the foundation, along with scholarships, endowments, and funding for chemical research. It is located in Houston, Texas.

Some of the scholarships, endowments, and awards provided by the Welch Foundation include:

  • The Welch Award in chemistry, currently a $300,000 award given on February 1 each year[1]
  • The Norman Hackerman in chemical research, currently a $100,000 award given on September 15[2]
  • The Robert A. Welch TILF Scholarship for students who participated in the University Interscholastic League and who wish to pursue a degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or biochemistry. Currently $14,000[3] per student.
  • Endowments to universities in Texas with Ph.D. chemistry departments
