He has played for Marine FC, Caernarfon Town FC and Vauxhall Motors FC .In 2006 he was transferred from Vauxhall to Altrincham on a free transfer.

In June 2006 Robbie Lawton was signed on a free transfer to Altrincham. He had an immediate impact on the team and fans scoring his first goal after just two games (making up for a yellow card the game before). He went on to play 44 games that season, scoring 5 goals. Robbie also picked up the captains armband in September 2006. He continued to be a regular in the starting line in 2007-08.

By the end of Robbie's first season for Altrincham he played 45 league games and scored a total of 5 goals from them.

At the end of the football season Robbie had in the league: 45 starts (the same as 2006-07), scored 2 goals, received 4 yellow cards and 1 red card. Cup Games: 6 starts, came on once as a substitute scored no goals and received no cards, yellow or red.

He is the player with the most starts for Altrincham this season, along with Darren Tinson.
