Roald Sagdeev

Roald Zinnurovich Sagdeev (Russian: Роальд Зиннурович Сагдеев) (26 December 1932) is a famous Russian physicist and former director of the Russian Space Research Institute.[1] He was also a science advisor to Mikhail Gorbachev. He was born in Kazan, Russia of Tatar parents. Sagdeev graduated from Kazan University and continued his education in Moscow. He is a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 1989 he is working in the University of Maryland. Sagdeev is married to Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of the late American president. He was the recipient of the 2003 Carl Sagan Memorial Award.

Sagdeev graduated from the Moscow State University. He was a member of the Controlled Fusion team at Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy in Moscow (1956-1961).
