Roadhouse

Roadhouse generally refers to a facility, principally in the USA, Canada and Australia which services passing traffic on a major intercity road. Facilities may include fuel, mechanical services as well as food and refreshments.

- In Alaska and the Yukon, starting in the 1890s roadhouses were checkpoints where dog drivers (mushers, or dog sledders); horse-driven sleds; and people on snowshoes, skis, or walking; would stop overnight for shelter and a hot meal.
- In theatre, a "roadhouse" or receiving house is a venue that does not house a production company of its own, but instead rents its facility to visiting theatre companies.
