This article has a deprecated, subst'ed or incorrect infobox and needs a new one. Please replace with {{Infobox Ship Begin/doc}}

I am not entirely sure that this ship should be called RMS, unless it was part of the Royal Mail Ship. I believe this ship should be called SS or HMS, it is listed in my great great grandfathers Declaration of Intention as the SS Cedric. However, it was used by the British during WWI as an auxillary cruiser, and then a troopship, according to the Ellis Island website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.184.70.35 (talk) 23:26, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

According to Royal Mail Ship the Cedric was a Royal Mail ship from 1903 until 1932, and when not in the mail service most ships revert to the standard SS designation. I haven't seen any sources indicating it's use as an auxiliary cruiser during WWI, however if so, it would have been refered to as the HMS during that time frame. Typically when there are multiple designations for a ship such as this, the one that was most common throughout it's service is normally used. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 23:50, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
