[edit] WP:SOCAL

Also, welcome to the Southern California WikiProject. If you have any questions about the project (or about the Wikipedia in general), don't hestitate to contact me.

As for standadization of the city articles, they are supposed to follow the guidelines at the City WikiProject, but as you have probably noticed, there is considerable variation in the articles beyond the User:Rambot added Demographics and Geography sections. Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. It would be nice just to see all the Southern California cities have the infobox included, with a city seal or flag in the infobox. BlankVerse 13:03, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

WOW! You got BUSY! Even the dinky cities, like Bell, California now have infoboxes (and city seals, external links, references, etc).
BTW: I answered your question at talk:Huntington Park, California. BlankVerse 12:43, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Links for references and external links should be as close to the data as possible. For those websites that don't put the search terms in the URLs, you're stuck with just giving the main search page, and then adding a note saying something like "main search page, search on 'foo'".
The usual order for sections if they are all used (AFAIK), is Notes, References, See also, and then External links at the bottom. Then comes the stubs, infoboxes, categories, and interwikimedia links. Depending upon who you listen to (and which Wikipedia Tool you are using (such as AWB)) The stubs might be placed between categories and interwikimedia links instead.
Getting things right the first time is a Very Good Thing™. When I first started editing on the Wikipedia, doing references was a real PITA, and they kept changing the prefered templates for doing references. Because of that, I was very good about getting the information that I added correct, but very bad at referencing my sources. I've worked on the articles for a few cities that generally meet Good article standards except that they are not well-referenced. :-(   The relatively new CITE extension to the MediaWiki software makes things so much easier.
I also answered a question of yours at Talk:Palmdale, California.
Elevation data as well as geographic coordinates are probably available from one of the gazetteer websites on the internet. From the main US Census webpage, there is a census gazetteer that's good for finding info on census-designated places. I don't remember how much data they have on incorporated cities. I've thought about using some of the maps that the US Census website creates, except that they have such ugly color combinations IMHO. I'm not sure about any good sources for density data. That may just have to be calculated. BlankVerse 21:38, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Footnotes

Hi! I noticed you recently removed the following text from Industry, California:

!--See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Footnotes for an explanation of how to generate footnotes using the [1] tags and the tag below --

This note is helpful to editors unfamiliar with this system of footnotes, and is recommended for inclusion on Wikipedia:Footnotes. This might have been an accident, but please refrain from removing this text in the future. Thank you! Brien Clark 01:39, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Brien, thanks for emphasizing the importance of the footnote notice to me. I'll be sure to include it in future reference sections I add to articles. Rmannion 01:42, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Sure, no problem. I figured you just weren't familiar with the notice, I know I wasn't until a short time ago. And I have to give you accolades for all your recent edits—you're really on fire! Thanks for all your hard work. Brien Clark 03:46, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nancy's Fancy

Hi, I noticed that you added a composition to the list of compositions by John Coolidge Adams called Nancy's Fancy. I was just wondering where you found this composition as I can’t find it listed on his official web site[1]. Thanks! S.dedalus 23:57, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Ups, sorry about that. My bad. I totally should have check the talk page their. That’s really cool though. I’ve never even heard of the piece (and I call myself a fan!) I wonder if the piece has been withdrawn? Anyway, thanks, I learned something new today! S.dedalus 05:35, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Seal temple city ca.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Seal temple city ca.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 13:51, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
