[edit] Summary

Photograph showing the recovery of a PELAGRA sediment trap in the Indian sector of the Southern Ocean on 25 November 2004. PELAGRA collects sinking marine snow in order to estimate the export production by the surface ocean plankton ecosystem. PELAGRA is a Lagrangian trap that positions itself at a fixed depth in the water column but drifts with surrounding ocean currents, allowing it to remain in close association with the ecosystem above it.
