[edit] My use of scripts to correct spelling and formatting
I currently use AutoWikiBrowser with the RegExTypoFix spelling correction script in an attempt to correct English spelling mistakes or typos. The script is manually created and maintained so doesn't correct every possible spelling mistake, so I may well only correct some of the errors on a page. I do however contribute common new misspellings to the list as I find them.
I also correct date formatting to meet Wikipedia standards defined in the Manual of Style and format the 'accessdate' tags in citation templates as per Template:Citation.
If an edit I make looks wrong, or is indeed wrong, please read the information below:
[edit] If I make a mistake
If I make an erroneous edit, I'll do two things:
- fix the mistake
- add an exception, correct the article page or update my scripts so that the mistake isn't repeated.
[edit] Common reasons I make a mistake
1. I'm human
- If this is the case please report my error here and I will look into it.
2. A page I edited contains a misspelling because it is in a direct quote from another source, but does not include [sic] in the page (in the text or in a hidden comment) and I 'fixed' the misspelling.
- If this is the case then please undo my erroneous correction and add a [sic] to the page, using the {{sic}} tag e.g. beleive [sic] .
3. A page in English that I edit contains text in another language, but the language is not tagged and I 'fixed' a misspelling in the foreign-language text.
- If this is the case then please undo my erroneous correction and enclose the foreign-language text in tags e.g. {{lang|fr|Le mariage}} for French, using the two-digit ISO 639-1 code for the language of the text. The foreign-language text will then be ignored by my English-language scripts. Tagging like this also has other advantages – see Template:Lang#Rationale for more information.
[edit] Thanks received for my efforts

I, alternativity, owe you this barnstar for correcting so many of my spelling and formatting errors. I would say I was greatful. But I'm afraid I'm not sure how it's spelled. At any rate, thanks. Very much, indeed. Alternativity (talk) 14:28, 5 May 2008 (UTC) |
