Talk:Rizwanur Rahman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As a Muslim I find this all quite odd. How on earth can a Muslim man marry a Hindu woman? How could the marriage be valid? India sure is a strange country if they allow this sort of marriage to take place at all! It amazes me that it was her family that was upset about the marriage and not the other way around. It's sad that Indian Muslims would see this kind of marriage as acceptable and defend this guy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.72.91.241 (talk) 19:20, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Repeated Vandalism
"WHAT FUTURE THIS BANGLADESHI ILLEGAL MAN HAD......???? HE LIVED IN TILJALA ......... ISLAMIC HELL HOLE IN CENTRAL KOLKATTA.... HE HAD NO GOOD JOB .......EVERYONE IS NOWADAYS A GRAPIC DESIGNER..... WHAT FUTURE HE HAD WITH A MUSLIM GIRL ......??? WHAT BETTER THAN MARRYING A RICH MARWARI GIRL IN NAME OF ROMANCE ....?? HE BETRAYED THE TRUST REPOSED BY PARENTS IN THE GURU PARAMPARA.... ...GOOD RIDDANCE AND MAY HE ROT IN HELL" - by anonymous. IP 123.201.90.31 at 09:54, 31 October 2007
Rizwanur was from a Hindi speaking family. He did not sport a long beard or wore a traditional hat to express his religious beliefs in public. He was educated from a Catholic school and a Catholic college. What the police officers did to him was not for his religious faith, but because of the power & financial status of the other party. and what the police did was illegal according to the laws of a country which boasts that its not ruled by Hindu Talibans. One eminent writer said: "This would not have happened if the girl married ShahRukh or Aamir Khan.
If the teacher tries to exploit a student, the student will report about the teacher's misconduct to the police, or in this particular case, her powerful and wealthy parents would have sufficed. She should not have gone to the Marriage Registrar.
Romance between teachers and their adult students are prehistoric and not limited to multimedia, web design or some educational institution. An adult woman is not the property of her parents so that "HE BETRAYED THE TRUST REPOSED BY PARENTS IN THE GURU PARAMPARA" by marrying her. According to your arguement, the woman betrayed the trust set on herself by her parents. Sub40Hz 09:43, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sub40 your explanation of why "Hindu extremists" wont like this page is total bullshit. Your commentary on "Hindu Taleban" is sickening. I thought you were a user, who like me was concerned that an innocent man was "killed" for challenging the order of the godless communist nutjobs that run Kolkatta.
- As a conservative Hindu, and one that reads a variety of conservative sources, no one considered Rahman an extremist. Everybody noted that Mukherjee is a corrupt man in cahoots with a rich guy to get rid of a man whose only crime was to fall in love. The "Hindu Taliban" are in fact the only people not communalizing this incident.Bakaman 22:39, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

- Bakaman, how would you explain the repeated vandalisms on this page? People in blogs have commented on Rahman as "Bangladeshi", "exploiter", "A dwarf trying to touch the moon", "Rupeeman", all these are slightly communal in nature. And I said "a country that boasts that its NOT ruled by Hindu Taliban."
-
- About "godless communist nutjobs", I do second your opinion, but thats the drawback of democracy. Smart and educated people are far outnumbered by illiterates ready to do anything for one 'roti', but both hold the same power to vote. The motto of the communists is "keep them starved and hang one roti above the ballot box."Sub40Hz 05:46, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Recent developments
Recent developments have been added. CBI investigations are continuing, and thus some of the views expressed are better stated as allegations rather than as facts. --ISKapoor 19:44, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Good job! But there are lots of rumors being actively spread by the police. You can guess why! Kolkata Police is run by IPS officers, and so is CBI... there is access, there can be friendship, and some more! Please use good sources, and keep a daily track of whats being said by reputed news companies (at least they are too rich to be bribed easily) like Times of India, NDTV or Ananda Bazar. Thanks! [edit] Inclusion of biased views
User:Worldlitto has inserted a link to http://rizwanurtragedy.blogspot.com/ at the top of the article which states:
Our conclusion.. It's pretty simple: Rizwanur was murdered. And the murderer.. None other than: Ashok Todi.
He has also inserted related views.
The case is under investigation. The facts need to be reported without judging that it is a murder and who is the murderer. Let the investigation bring out the facts.
User:Sub40Hz has inserted:
- Experienced investigators believe, if Rizwanur was killed, its possible for the killers to forcibly take his mobile and send these short messages, or the messages could have been sent using recent internet technologies. Some of the many points supporting this explanation is, minutes before his death, Rizwanur called a Human Rights Commission official and asked for an appointment to talk about more details about his planned court case against his in-laws. Also a person planning to kill himself, would not call from a phone booth but instead will use his own mobile phone. Rahman used phone booths to call people because he believed that his phone was tapped.
Who are the experienced investigators? What is the source?

Also, http://www.telegraphindia.com/1071025/asp/frontpage/story_8471549.asp Read the last line of this page. The rest I saw on a reliable TV channel and I will find pages that can be referred to. [edit] Political prespective
Tha case has had significant political implications. Some information about political prespective has been adeed.--ISKapoor 22:09, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orientation
Who married who? Its been said that Rahman married Priyanka, and it was unfaithful of a teacher to marry his student. Unlike arranged marriage, where consent of the woman is often not taken, love marriages take place with consent from BOTH PARTIES. So it was equally "unfaithful" for Priyanka to marry her teacher. Sub40Hz 05:12, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Letter
The legal communique from Priyanka is almost redundant for this article, except for adding a bit drama, it is not concerned to Rahman's death in any way. Let it be there for now, but it should be very brief and more neutral. Sub40Hz (talk) 17:48, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Claimed rumors
The article states:
- There are other rumors spread by some sources which said that Rizwanur sent one SMS to one of his friends that read "Please protest aloud after I am gone", and called one of his former "girlfriends" to express his desire to kill himself, which were later proved to be false[1][2]. These facts also point to the possibility that Rizwanur was not the person who was sending these messages, if they are at all authentic[3].
The SMS has not been proven to be false. The the use of term rumors is inappropriate.
It has not been shown that the SMS were fake, as the article presumes.

[edit] Judgement by Press, Popular opinion and Polical pressure
The press and the blogs appears to have judged the case and has declared Priyanka's father guilty. There has been alot of political pressure on the police and the government.
Times of India writes:"Even the blogosphere erupted — Rizwanur Rahman, a graphic designer from the city's Muslim shanties, was hailed as a 'real hero' and a 'martyr in love'. Singers dusted off predictable Joan Baez and Paul Robeson songs in his memory; others wrote poems."[4]
However I would urge the Wikipedians to be neutral.--ISKapoor (talk) 20:11, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Report: Murder ruled out
PLease note that CBI appears to have ruled out murder[5]:
- NEW DELHI, Nov. 18: While questioning the ‘nasty role’ played by over half a dozen police officers including a few senior IPS officers in the Rizwanur death case, the Central Bureau of Investigation seems to have ruled it out as a case of ‘murder’ and is contemplating whether it can make it a case of ‘abetment to commit suicide’ or not.
- New Delhi, Nov. 18: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has more or less concluded that Rizwanur Rahman was driven to suicide.[6]
