[edit] AfD

I think that the link I have added verifies the existence of Rivory, at least in 1998. Assuming that it hasn't been obliterated in a nuclear blast or something, I guess it probably still exists. Can i suggest that the deletion template should now be removed? MurphiaMan 16:17, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

I have removed the AfD, but what is it? According to the coordinates given it is located between Butlersbridge and Lough Oughter; an area of boggy land and forest with no roads! Is it some sort of secret Government Research centre where they are conducting the Irish Nuclear Weapons programme? (Sarah777 18:06, 18 August 2007 (UTC))
Some further research; Googling "rivory" brings up this Wiki article only, in relation to Ireland. "Rivory" does appear to be a French surname and there is a tiny Alpine village of the name in France. Maybe the French are funding the research? (Sarah777 18:13, 18 August 2007 (UTC))
Well, I have found an old reference to a townland of Rivory and the position comes from Geonames which is highly respected. If you personally know the area and think its wrong then you may well be correct. In fact when I looked at the sat images I couldn't see any settlement and thought the position might be wrong. But the image resolution is not very good so it doesn't prove anything one way or the other.
But I'm inclined to the view that a place called Rivory exists in Co. Cavan. And at present, the only verifiable position is the one I've used. By all means change it, but we need verification.MurphiaMan 19:12, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
And another local address here. My guess is that Rivory is a townland between Milltown and Cavan and the Geonames position is at the centre of the townland. But I have no evidence for that just yet. MurphiaMan 19:17, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Yep, probably a Townland, rather than a village. I know the area reasonably well (though not a native) and I never heard of the place and I know there is no village at that location. But it must be a very large townland with such a huge population! Butlersbridge, the nearest "big" settlement had only 182 people in 2002! (Sarah777 20:27, 18 August 2007 (UTC))
There's always the possibility that the pop figure is wrong as well!MurphiaMan 07:36, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Like the first three digits should be removed! (Sarah777 13:40, 19 August 2007 (UTC))
