Rivadavia is a department of the province of San Juan (Argentina). Located in the centre west of the same, which is predominantly a landscape clearly urbanized east desert with mountains in the west, where there are numerous tourist attractions and hydropower.

The municipal law of December 7, 1869, provided that divided the province into 18 departments. One covering the current areas Marquisate (current district department), Zonda and Ullum. These zones cover a substantial area, which responded to the escaza population in the area.

For 1890, the brothers Nicolas and Agustin Echezarreta, designed to establish a center population to be department and therefore presented a draft to the village head in Marquisate, since both brothers were planting vineyards in the area Marquesado and The Drink , and its goal was to attract the population, which caused a good demand for labour for the processing of the v.

But in 1928 a new law is punishable by Municipal Regime, said that included Rivadavia within the department Capital. On March 7, 1935, during the government of Juan Maurín, new legislation on the subject reappears independently.

The department Rivadavia is located in south central province of San Juan, in the so-called Valley Tulum, west of the City of San Juan just 6 kilometers, covers an area of 157 km ², making it one of the smaller departments in the province. Its boundaries are:

• North with departments Chimbas and Ullum
• To the south with Rawson and Pocito
• At this with the Capital
• To the west with the Zonda

The department has a Rivadavia mountainous west in a north-south direction, which are the mountains of Marquisate, which belongs to the Sierra Chica de Zonda, northwest San Juan River and this plain, an area belonging to Valley Tulum, which concentrates its entire population. According to INDEC in the 2001 census Rivadavia has a population of 76,150 inhabitants, placing it in third place as the most populous department of the province after the Rawson and Capital, integrating well to agglomerate Great San Juan.

Its population is concentrated in the eastern area, where the village is located header with the same name (Rivadavia). It is located at the foot of the Sierra Chica de Zonda, was inaugurated on September 11, 1932. It was idea of the governor Federico Cantoni who call it "Park Bernardino Rivadavia." This area is located in the northwestern part of the department and is accessed by the Avenida San Martin and then the route number 14, this with the following attractions
