Rita recently had a toilet roll personalised with her own face. These are due to go on sale in January 2009[citation needed].

Her first band was called Tantrum and consisted also of Duncan James and Zachary Lichman. From 2000 to 2001 Simons was in a girl band called Girls@Play. Her character in the group was "Rita the mechanic".[1] The band had a top 20 hit in the UK with "Airhead".[1] She was a backing singer for Duncan James on the song "Sooner or Later" and performed on Top of the Pops and Strictly Dance Fever.

She has made one-off appearances in the British television shows Mile High, Dream Team and London's Burning,[2].

On 11 May 2007, it was announced that she would be joining the cast of EastEnders as Roxy Mitchell, alongside Samantha Janus as Roxy's sister Ronnie. Of her role, Simons said: "I've always watched EastEnders and it's been my dream to become part of the Mitchell family."[1][3] This is her first long-term TV role.

Simons is the niece of Sir Alan Sugar[2] and in August 2004[1] married Theo Silverston, with whom she has twin daughters; Jaimee and Maiya (born April 2006).

The media once reported a possible romantic link with Robbie Williams which was later proven to be untrue.[1]

She is best friends with her EastEnders co-star Samantha Janus.[4]
