[edit] Plot Summary

Sydney Miller is a 13 year old girl who revisits her homeland of Hawaii and discovers her own inner strength through surfing and other island riches. Her overprotective father keeps her from surfing with her new friend Gia and her other friends. Although not allowed, she does so anyway after finding her deceased mother's old surfboard. After a surfing accident, she meets her mother's old friend, Malia, and is able to learn more about her mother, which her father never told her about. While at a ceremony celebrating the coming of whales, she learns how her mother died. Her mother was a surfer, and on one great day of surfing she drowned in a surprise set. Her new friends start disrespecting her because she had an inheritance to a beach and rumor was that she was going to sell it. However, she proves them wrong by not signing the papers, and her parents decide to move there because of Sydney's wishes. While there, she meets a boy named Kona (Brian Christopher Stark) and they develop a relationship.
