Rio Grande Trail
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rio Grande Trail is a proposed long distance trail along the Rio Grande in New Mexico. The Rio Grande river system is the second largest in the United States. Of its over 1,800 total miles, some 500 miles pass though the heart of New Mexico. The river is the state's primary drainage feature and most valuable natural and cultural resource.[1] The river and its bosque provide a wide variety of recreation, including hunting and fishing, birdwatching, river rafting, hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Although some trail advocates would like to see the trail extended the full distance through New Mexico, the proposed trail extends 300 miles, from the Colorado border to Sunland Park.[2] Municipalities within the trail corridor include Bernalillo and Belen.
