Rim Banna the Palestinian singer, lyricist and composer, born in Nazareth in the Galilee - Palestine. She studied music and singing in the High Institute for Music “Gnesins” in Moscow, she specialized in modern singing and conducting singing ensembles where she graduated in 1991. In 1991, Rim married to Leonid Alexeienko from Ukraine, who is an artist. He studied music with her in the same institute in Moscow. Both of them are working together in the music field and compose their own music. Rim Banna’s songs demonstrates a special musical and singing style, which is her very own, her songs are inspired by the Palestinian people’s conscience and sentiments, from their culture, their history and their folklore. The music and the tunes flourish from the soul of the poem and its streams, and from the feeling of the word’s rhythm then comes the interweaving of the words and the tune, which produce the beautiful songs. She also gives tunes to poetic themes from the folklore, which she and Leonid have given a modern style tune, which is inspired by the soul of the music of the people in the universe. Rim Banna has also produced a collection of children's songs for which she herself wrote the words and the tunes. These songs have been warmly applauded by children in Children’s Festivals. The lyrics of the children songs are inspired by rural and urban Palestinian environment. Part of it arises from the Palestinian culture and folklore like her famous song New Moon (Amar Abu Leili).
Rim and Leonid participated in different Palestinian, Arabic and International European concerts and Festivals, where she presented the Palestinian voice and the Palestinian song in all her participation, which was received with popular success and admiration. In 1994, Rim Banna got the Honorary Degree as “The Personality of The Year” and she was endowed the title of “The Embassador of Peace” in Rovereto – ITALY In the year 2000, Rim Banna received an honor award “THE AWARD OF PALESTINE". Her role as an artist is to raise the voice of Palestine in the world, through her songs, and to mobilize them to stand by the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation.
