[edit] Valuable but anomalous?

This is a valuable article but how does it fit in? How will it be categorzied? Does it need merging with the existing Boris Godunov article? I think this needs to be addressed, otherwise it may be overlooked by readers. -- Kleinzach 06:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't know whether merging with Boris Godunov is feasible - that article might become too long.
As for categorization: similar to Boris Godunov itself: Category:Operas, Category:Russian-language operas, plus Category:Compositions by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Category:Compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich; there may be other suitable categories, but those should be a start. I realise that this article doesn't really describe compositions by these composers but orchestrations, but I don't think we need yet another category for this specialised musical treatment - Compositions by ... should do.
Also, the article needs to link to Mussorgsky earlier than it currently does. It might start with
Although Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov is usually praised for its originality...

I don't think the length of Boris Godunov will be a problem. The main article can be split. For example the discography could become a separate page. We want to avoid having overlapping, competing articles, hence my support for a merger on Afd.
The main purpose of Category:Operas is to produce a list of opera titles, so we only want one Boris Godunov showing up in the list. I agree about using Category:Compositions by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Category:Compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich. -- Kleinzach 06:16, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
