Talk:Rimsky-Korsakov and Shostakovich versions of Boris Godunov

[edit] Valuable but anomalous?
This is a valuable article but how does it fit in? How will it be categorzied? Does it need merging with the existing Boris Godunov article? I think this needs to be addressed, otherwise it may be overlooked by readers. -- Kleinzach 06:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know whether merging with Boris Godunov is feasible - that article might become too long.
- As for categorization: similar to Boris Godunov itself: Category:Operas, Category:Russian-language operas, plus Category:Compositions by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Category:Compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich; there may be other suitable categories, but those should be a start. I realise that this article doesn't really describe compositions by these composers but orchestrations, but I don't think we need yet another category for this specialised musical treatment - Compositions by ... should do.
- Also, the article needs to link to Mussorgsky earlier than it currently does. It might start with
- Although Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov is usually praised for its originality...

- I don't think the length of Boris Godunov will be a problem. The main article can be split. For example the discography could become a separate page. We want to avoid having overlapping, competing articles, hence my support for a merger on Afd.

- The main purpose of Category:Operas is to produce a list of opera titles, so we only want one Boris Godunov showing up in the list. I agree about using Category:Compositions by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Category:Compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich. -- Kleinzach 06:16, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
