The company was founded in 1997 by Greg Gianforte in Bozeman, Montana. Additional offices have opened in California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Texas, Illinois, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
RightNow provides on demand CRM software and services that help companies improve their customer experience. RightNow's suite of applications includes multi-channel Service, Sales, Marketing, Customer Feedback Management, Voice Automation, and Analytics. The current version of RightNow CRM is February '08. The offering is updated quarterly.
RightNow is primarily known for its business model of offering its software as a hosted service in addition to offering it to customers in a traditional enterprise (on premise) solution. More than 90% of RightNow's customers are using the hosted service. As of December 2007, the company has more than 1,800[1] customers, including British Airways, Iomega, Continental Tire NA, Nikon,iRobot, British Telecom, Motorola, Black and Decker, Overstock.com, Electronic Arts, Bank of New Zealand, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Department of Education, the Social Security Administration, Australian National University, and Columbia University .

Greg Gianforte started the company in 1997 with no investor money and created a software product that was initially focused on customer service. As the company grew, it added sales automation, marketing automation, voice automation, customer feedback management and analytics to its product, creating a full CRM suite).
