From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council, Inc. (RBSCC) a 501(C)(3) non-profit was founded in 1973 as a senior service provider in the Ridgewood and Bushwick communities. In the years that have elapsed, RBSCC has grown tremendously and its mission has extended far beyond that of its early years. Today, our agency provides a vast array of social services to residents of all ages within the Bushwick, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Ridgewood, Glendale, and surrounding communities. [1]

The RBSCC is proud of its history and tradition, as a community-based provider of much- needed services that improve the quality of life all of the members of the communities we serve. The agency acknowledges the support and assistance of our senior citizens, community groups and leaders, local political representatives, and dedicated staff in our efforts to serve those in need.[2]

[edit] Bushwick Visionaries

RBSCC, in co-partnership with the Bushwick Local Development Corporation (Bushwick LDC), have put forth a planning proposal entitled The Bushwick Renaissance Plan: A Development Strategy for West Bushwick. The proposal seeks to revitalize this underutilized and abandoned industrial area by introducing new uses on large tracts of vacant City-Owned-Property. The sponsors of the Plan are proposing to develop this land with commercial and residential uses and anticipate that over 200 affordable homes, a retail complex with a supermarket, a nursing home and a daycare center will be built in the study area. This new development is expected to generate employment opportunities for local residents and build upon recent City investment in the area. [3]

This baseline planning information pertaining to the Project Site is part of RBSCC participation in the development and implementation of the Bushwick Renaissance Plan.[4]

[edit] Respite Center

RBSCC Respite Program is located just off Decatur Street in a residential neighborhood. Two programs are offered: social adult day care and residential care, which provides extended respite of up to fourteen weeks per year. Both include meals and snacks, daily activities, personal care assistance and weekly monitoring of participants' vital signs. Door-to-door transportation is available to day care participants. The day program includes overnight stays when necessary. RBSCC serves adults sixty and older who reside in the Queens metropolitan area.[5]
