Ridge Racer V is the fifth game in the Ridge Racer series on the Sony PlayStation. It was one of the launch games for the PlayStation 2. There are 14 tracks and 18 vehicles, with 5 modes of play.

Racing on RRV is separated into different race formats.
Grand Prix is split up into two formats: Standard and Extra.
In Standard, you race factory stock cars from the various manufacturers, racing in 4 races. There is one GP in the Standard class, the name of which depends on the difficulty you select (Easy, Medium or Hard) at the start of the game.

In Extra, you race extensively modified cars of the stock versions, and the format is split up into 4 different GP's.

- Maximum GP [Only available in Hard mode]

- Round 2 Greenfield (3rd place to advance)
- Round 3 Outer Pass (2nd place to advance)
- Round 4 Above the City (win race to complete GP)
A special race is unlocked after meeting certain requirements. The Pac-Man GP runs with the iconic Namco character Pac-Man in a roadster and the 4 Ghosts Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde on scooters.
Other racing formats in RRV include Time Attack, 99 Trial (99 runs around a circuit), Duel, and Free Run. Multiplayer format is also available.

Sunny Beach Length: 13477 ft.
A reworked version of the Novice course in Ridge Racer. Standard course running through town to the shoreline.
Green Field Length: 19251 ft.
A reworked version of the Advanced course in Ridge Racer. Extension of Sunny Beach, high speeds are the norm.
Park Town Length: 11574 ft.
A simple Figure 8 track with long straightaways and simple turns.
Above the City Length: 17037 ft.
An extension of Park Town, the track experiences sudden elevation drops and irregular corners.
Outer Pass Length: 14878 ft.
A slightly modified version of Sunny Beach. Defined with a mountainous terrain in the first half of the track.
Bayside Line Length: 25688 ft.
Longest track in Ridge Racer V, meant to challenge the most experienced drivers. This is an extension of Outer Pass.
Airport Oval Length: 11246 ft.
Setup similar to a NASCAR race, this ten-lap race is highlighted by the use of special Oval Engines; high horsepower engines meant for full throttle racing.

Kamata Fiaro
A drifty and light car best suited for beginners.
Danver Toreador
A wild and uncontrollable car best noted for its abundance of torque. A drifty car geared for intermediate drivers.
Rivelta Solare
A pure sports car, that is only suitable for advanced drivers.
Kamata Fortune
Strong grip car, which compensates for its lack of torque. Is the only car in the game with a FF drivetrain.
Rivelta Mercurio
A symbol of Ridge City racing, this car is a balance of speed and grip.
Himmel E.O.
Best grip car, however its rear mounted engine is not for everyone.

Danver Spectra
A drift-type car with very bad at cornering.
Rivelta Crinale (a.k.a. "13th Racing")
A fast drift-type car which slides very easily.
Kamata Angelus (a.k.a. "White Angel")
A very fast grip-type car which also doesn't drift. This is the fastest car in the game.

Ai Fukami replaced Reiko Nagase as the race queen of Ridge Racer. However, her popularity was less than Reiko's, and an online poll replaced Reiko back as Ridge Racer's official race queen.

Ridge Racer V: Arcade Battle is the arcade port of Ridge Racer V. It was released in 2001 for the Namco System 246 arcade platform.
