"Ride" was a track co-written and produced by Rich Harrison for R&B artist Usher for his 2004 album, Confessions. The song features The Bad Seed. The track never made the cut on the album nor the re-release, so Harrison handed over the instrumental to Jennifer Lopez for her new album, Rebirth in 2005. The song was re-written still including some of the lyrics Usher originally wrote and was reproduced into the hit song Get Right, which made number one in the UK, among other countries. The song takes a blaring horn sample from Maceo Parker's Soul Power 1974.
The song was leaked on the Internet in 2004 and can still be downloaded and heard today.
[edit] The Song
The song compairs to Get Right in theme also, basically explaining how Usher is in a club and is flirtatious with a girl who he is interested in. He is tempting her with the notion of riding all night, which itself has multiple connotations. The Bad Seed rapping starts the same as Ludacris's rap in Usher's hit, Yeah! with, "Watch out, My outfit's ridiculous." The lyrics that were sampled for Get Right were, "So much we've got to say, but so little time, and if tonight ain't long enough, don't leave love behind, (Don't leave this love behind), Baby take my hand."
[edit] Controversy
Usher, Harrison, and Lopez did not speak publicly of handing over the instrumental and lyrics to the other camp, and as a result, "Ride" remained unknown to the public. However, in 2004, "Ride" was leaked to the internet and this caused controversy among music media and the fans of Usher. Usher himself also released a negative comment publicly, but Lopez did not comment.
