[edit] IDKFA
On cheat code you wrote that IDKFA stands for "ID Kicks Fucking Ass". Do you have any reference to back this statement up? Fredrik | talk 16:45, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Some controversy about this one. See [1] and [2] Richard W.M. Jones
Neither source looks particularly reliable to me. And in either case, I don't think the cheat code is all that famous... so I believe it should be removed from cheat code.
Welcome to Wikipedia, by the way! Fredrik | talk 21:38, 29 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Well, as a DOOM player, I think it's pretty well known. Anyway, it's your call ... I'm very happy to be a Wikipedian but I'm still not sure if you can 'see' my responses to your questions on this page.
I'm a Doom player too, but I don't think I've heard of this one. And note that although the code may be generally accepted to mean something, this meaning may simply have been made up by some random person 10 years ago.
- I sent an email to John Carmack. Let's see if he replies :-)
I can see the respones now that I've put this page on my watchlist. Fredrik | talk 00:04, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] We Love Katamari
Because, the linked content on Wikibooks doesn't belong on Wikibooks. The site is supposed to be for educationally valuable resources, textbooks and annoted public domain works, things which could be used in actual classroom environments - video game walkthroughs do not really align themselves to this goal. I don't see "P.S. game guides" at the end of "A collection of free educational textbooks and learning materials." Such content is to either be deleted outright or moved to other sites - there is no Wikimedia site for this content, try Wikicities. Janizary 16:52, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use image
Just to let you know, the image of Jet Set Willy will be deleted soon because it's an orphaned fair use image. See Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, Images/Media criteria #5 ('unused copyright images'). I thought I'd give you a heads up before I deleted it, since you're using it on your user page. // Pathoschild 02:10, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- I've readded it to the Jet Set Willy page, so it's no longer orphaned. Richard W.M. Jones 10:44, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 3D Monster Maze
Thanks for your kind words. A lot of recent changes that you've seen are a result of comments and insights that followed putting it up at Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/3D_Monster_Maze. You're welcome to add more ideas about what this article is missing yet to become an FA, and, of course, to take part in improving it towards that goal! As for your question about my involvement with the game other than playing, I must say that back then (when I encountered the game) I was just 10 years old, and just started my programming (on an Elektronika B3-34, a predecessor of Elektronika MK-61 first, and then in BASIC — first Sharp PC-1245, and than on that very ZX81 where I played The Game).
On the same occasion, let me thank you for your significant contributions to the ZX81 article!
Kind regards, BACbKA 13:20, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
- P.S. I am confused a bit about your significant contributions claim now, btw. The above thanks was based on the assertion you made on your user page (and I am not retracting them as you probably know what you're saying); but what puzzles me is that the history of the ZX81 article doesn't list any "Jones" substring there — did you do anything as an anon? And, come to think of it, the only change you made to the Attribute clash was an anon vandalism revert... did you work from an anon IP/another login in one of these cases?
--BACbKA 21:05, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- Yes, the contributions were made from this IP address ... Richard W.M. Jones 21:20, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
- I thought so... btw I've read about a way to claim some anon edits (with admins' help, IIRC if you have your own login history attached to that IP as well) and have them moved to your history... --BACbKA 21:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Final cleanup/peer review before FAC resubmission
Hi again! Could you please have a quick look at that article's talk page again? In addition to your Sinclair interest, you would also be a great asset there as a native English speaker in the context of the 2nd-person transposition discussion... TIA, --BACbKA 22:10, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

It's no bot, they're changing their thinking. Can they be blocked pronto? — Graibeard 10:26, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm not an administrator. This can be reported on Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism, but first we must give the user appropriate warnings on their talk page. It's manageable at present - I'm periodically monitoring the two known IP addresses and reverting as necessary. Richard W.M. Jones 11:29, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Screenshots
I noticed Image:Tranzam-1.png and Image:Tranzam-2.png which you've said are GFDL images. However, as they're game screenshots, I don't think this is correct, so I'm changing them to "game-screenshot". I hope you do not mind. Thank-you. StuartBrady 21:21, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, you're absolutely right about those. Richard W.M. Jones 23:38, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks. BTW, there aren't any others that I've missed, are there? StuartBrady 23:49, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- Not that I can find right now. But I am planning on adding a bunch more animated screenshots (see Image:JetSetWilly-ColdStore-Animated.gif) so when I do that I'll be careful to tag them right. Richard W.M. Jones 10:01, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Grammar School at Leeds
The latest few edits to Grammar School at Leeds have added a lengthy quote from "Richard W.M. Jones" to the article (added by an anon IP). Is this you? And if so, in what capacity? (see [3]). └ UkPaolo/talk┐ 19:22, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Redlinks
Hi, I noticed you reverted an edit on the Imagine Software page with the rationale "rv edit by User:207.112.74.225 since the whole point is that if the links are red they should be created". Per WP style guidelines, redlinks should only be created if the creating editor genuinely feels they will become a notable article, and if that editor is personally willing to create those articles in the near future. More info at WP:CONTEXT. To create the links in good faith in the first place is fair enough, but to revert a perfectly legitimate redlink cleanup indicates your willingness to create all those articles. As it stands it just makes it look like Imagine didn't create many notable games, potentially calling the notability of Imagine themselves into question. Deizio 04:48, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Fair 'nuff, although I would like to write an article about Jumping Jack (video game) at some point. Richard W.M. Jones 09:18, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Laputa robot image
I reverted your new-version of Image:Laputa-robot-ghibli.jpg, as, although it's a nice picture, and higher resolution, it's your own photograph of the same object, not actually the original uploader's picture. This is needlessly confusing, especially as he has this in a gallery in his user space. Could you upload your image under a new name to Wikipedia:Commons instead, then the image links in the articles can be changed to point to that. Has the added benefit of being able to be used in other (language) projects without copying the picture across. --zippedmartin 21:50, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Cool, done that now. The new image is Image:Ghibli-Museum-Laputa-Robot.jpg. Richard W.M. Jones 10:44, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] comma seperated, and delimited
I know you suggested merging them, but I disagree. Comma seperated files have a lot that's different from other simply delimited files. They should refer to each other certainly, but they are sperate formats.
And if anything merge it the other way. Make delimited the main article, because comma delimited could be a subset of that (although a larger subset - comma delimited is the only delimiter that can handle newlines in data fields, and that has a method of escaping the delimiter).
Before reverting any other redirects, please put it to a vote. And if you don't agree that delimited should be the main article, then ask about that as well in the vote.

[edit] NBNS
lkcl 22sep2006 - richard, need your help: a page called NBNS has been incorrectly redirected to NBT. as explained on the talk page of NBNS, this is misleading. how do things get 'un-re-directed'? the page should be a very simple page saying 'NBNS stands for NetBIOS Naming Service, according to Internet RFCs 1001 and 1002. See NBT page for details.' nothing more.
it should NOT be redirected directly to NBT because then people will think that NetBIOS over TCP is the NetBIOS Naming Service.

- Apparently I am allowed to blank my talk page. There is no definite "rule" to sya I can't. Read what it says on the relevant policy page ('many people blank their pages as soon as they have read the messages') and adminstrator William M. Connolley does it as well. Check his talk page recently. Did you take my advice and shave? ;o) RuthieK 23:32, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

-
- You can blank messages from your talk page. It is considered "disruption" to remove warnings, however. And that gets you a block. So does making personal attacks. yandman 07:34, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
- So it is OK to misrepresent rules. Because there was no warning before I started to have RWMJ telling me what I can and can't do. I think he should be warned for pestering people. On Wikipedia the facts are always the first victim - tight-arsed formalism gone wrong rules the waves. RuthieK 08:30, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

- RWMJ was the one warning you, warnings which you disregarded. I agree that the formalities are a pain, but we need them to keep the playing field level. You should try the Anarchopedia if that's more your cup of tea. yandman 08:36, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

- A 'warning' for what? A tiny piece of perceived speculation (where do the facts end and speculation begin?) tacked onto a fact? A warning? Prig is the word, seriously. But facts are the first victim. RuthieK 09:00, 11 October 2006 (UTC) I am still waiting for the substantive point to be answered. He made a comment which has somehow been reinterprested into a 'warning' because a 'warning' was retrospectively needed to justify him.(His actions constitute disruption.) He then started pestering me when I cleared messages from the page. I was entirely within my rights. And how was the warning disregarded??? Something creepy is going on here RuthieK 13:13, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Don't forget to subst: templates!
Hi,
When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.
Thanks! :)

I've listed a proposed project concerning Cheshire on Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals. I think it can easily co-exist with Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography. If you are interested in contributing to this proposed project, even in just making small contributions at this time, please add your name to list at the appropriate place. Hello Richard W.M. Jones, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Amstrad_CPC_Advert.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Amstrad_CPC_Advert.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for uploading Image:Alexander Balanescu.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. [edit] Scotch hands
Another editor has added the {{prod}}

All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}}
