[edit] The link to R- fitness. =

I not a writer, I am a trainer and I have decided to share my knowledge with people who cannot afford to have a trainer or just want get a few tips on how to get fit. I based in London. Anyone who logs onto my website can view a free monthly workout video www.r-fitness.co.uk. If you navigate through my website you will see that I am not selling anything. I am just a trainer trying to share what I know best “fitness”. My income is from personal training and it is very restricted to the London area. I am already a very busy trainer and there are only so many hours I can work in a day therefore I am not trying to get clients from Wikipedia. In my career, I see alot of unhealthy and unfit people who I hope to help and I am merely offering free advice and free training to help a society that is becoming obese and unhealthy. I am sincere in trying to share my knowledge. For these reasons, I have created the page General Fitness Training on Wikipedia. I do not understand why you keep deleting my external link when I am offering a free service without looking for any financial gain in return.

[edit] Your links are spam.

Your links are spam. They are totally spam. They contain your name. You may be an excellent personal trainer, so please use your knowledge to add to wikipedia, there are lots of areas in the physical exercise, exercise physiology, physical health and human anatomy that could use expanding. But the links you are adding to General Fitness Training are huge spam. Feel free to add them to your personal user page, but don't link them to any other pages. WLU 00:47, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I disagree

I disagree with your comment that my link can be classed as spam because it uses my name. They contain my name because I am the creator of the video and the exercises. Also, I perform the exercises. I sign my name because I am taking responsibility for what I do just like books writers sign their books, doctors sign their prescriptions and trainers sign their programmes and diets. You will find my website is the only one on the web that offers a monthly workout video for free. You are not causing any harm to me but to the Wikipedia user who could benefit by having the choice to watch the video and learn the correct techniques demonstrated in the videos. If my name is the problem on the link, can you just put my link workout videogiving the option to users to view the videos? Thank you for your time, Ricardo Macedo

They are spam because you are the author. Perhaps spam is not the right term but the are inappropriate for wikipedia. I appreciate your efforts to inform consumers, but wikipedia is not about helping people, it's about building an on-line encyclopaedia. The link is still inappropriate, because you wrote the original page and have the opportunity to modify it. If you are interested in improving wikipedia rather than promoting your videos, use the knowledge you have of good technique to modify and improve (or create) the pages on specific weight training techniques (and include your sources, and be prepared for brutal editing - wikipedia improves through conflict!) If you want to add to the page, put in the information you know about the topic, citing your original sources. You might also want to read the page WP:EL
Think of what you would do if someone you knew and disagreed with put up a link to their own website. Would you leave it there? On the other hand, if they presented it as one side of a controversy and gave links that backed up their claims, and provided information about counter-claims, then you'd leave it on the page, after adding more info that was tuned towards your own opinions on the matter. Or, if you were reading a page about Dan Brown, how comfortable would you feel about the information on the page if you noticed that one of the users modifying the page had the username "Dan Brown" and a userpage that said "I'm the author of The Davinci Code"
Ultimately, if you make edits and they are consistently removed, you can be pretty sure that you're doing something that violates policy or ettiquette. Try looking around and contributing to a variety of pages within your specialty for a while, then come back to the original page. Wikipedia is fun, and it can be very rewarding to make worthwhile contributions to pages that stand the test of time. Currently Strength Training, Resistance Training and Weight Training are in a bit of flux and need some attention, that'd be a great place to start contributing. Myself and several other users regularly monitor the pages, so you'll definitely get feedback (and it should be positive). On the other hand, if you keep putting up the same links, you stand the risk of being blocked. Not by me, I don't have that kind of access, but eventually an admin might step in.
Also, it's easier to put in the four tildes (wiggly things used over vowels in Spanish) than type your name every time - three just puts your name, 4 does your name and time, 5 does just time. Thus:

WLU (three)

WLU 23:44, 10 November 2006 (UTC) (four)

23:44, 10 November 2006 (UTC) (five)

Anyway, I totally recommend editing other pages for a bit, it's fun.
