Richard T. Greer is a graduate student in the Religious Studies Department at the University of California, Riverside. His research foci include Tai language, literature and religion; Sanskrit and Pali; and Southern Asian religion. Current research includes comparing northern Thai and Tai chronicles (c. 15th - 17th centuries C.E.). The comparisons are historiographical in method; the role of religion (buddhasasana) in legitimizing a specific sect (nikaya) or kingdom (Pali: nagara, Tai:meaung) being of specific interest.
