[edit] Background
The translator at Boston Harbor
Recently employed as a software engineer specializing in scientific and engineering applications, I code primarily C++ and Perl under Linux. On April 1, 2008, I obtained a permit to live and work in Düsseldorf as a freelance technical translator. Since then I have been translating various types of documents using the translation memory tool WordFast 5.
On the natural language front, I've passed the Goethe-Institute's Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung at CEFR level C1. I have been studying in Düsseldorf since February 2007 to pass the Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung in May 2008. If successful, this will increase my German proficiency rating to CEFR level C2.
I've also studied French for a couple of years, but never acquired much proficiency with it. Some day I'd like to master that language.

[edit] Objectives
My objectives vis-à-vis Wikipedia are to
- make German language articles available to anglophone readers,
- acquire experience and exposure translating material from German into U.S. English, and
- learn new things.
