It was my privilege and pleasure to meet Richard Crooks in person, at his home in Portola Valley, California, on December 31, 1969. It was a balmy, sunny afternoon and Crooks was particularly gracious as he showed us around in his house on a wooded hillside. I will never forget seeing his entire room devoted to framed authographed photographs of singers, musicians, and U.S. presidents. He spoke about an individual who was pirating some of his radio broadcasts, including those with Bing Crosby; he told us that he called Bing and was assured that there would be some legal action taken. Crooks was also concerned about his new color television set, which RCA had given him, and had asked them to take it back; hopefully, the matter was resolved. One of my friends knew Crooks for many years and had arranged this meeting; he also related a number of stories about their discussions. He even taped the last meeting he had with Crooks, only a few weeks before he died; it was clear that Crooks remained quite knowledgeable about the music business and he also had a considerable sense of humor. He seldom was impressed with the modern tenors he heard, either in person or on recordings or broadcasts; he made it clear his favorites remained Enrico Caruso and Jussi Bjoerling. Image:Crooks.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template.
