[edit] Merge proposal

I suggest that this article be merged with Cornell University. This is just one of many notable buildings on the Cornell campus, and it would be unmanageable if each had its own independent article. Wiki readers would generally not look specifically for Rice Hall .. they would look for Cornell University. And if they did a search for Rice Hall, they would (and should) find it on the Cornell University article. Truthanado (talk) 22:10, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Truthanado -- Although the new Rice Hall article is very short, it and several other articles on Cornell University buildings are expected to grow, and would be too detailed for inclusion in the main Cornell University article. See how long is the Cornell list within List of Registered Historic Places at colleges and universities. FYI, for another university in Minnesota having 4 NRHPs, I think it was Carleton University or Carleton College, the editors just went through similar reasoning to decide that they did not want the NRHP infoboxes for each of the 4 sites included in the university page, they should be included in separate articles instead. Each NRHP site is notable and worthy of a separate wikipedia article already, that has been determined by discussion generally previously at the WikiProject on National Register of Historic Places. This seems to be where you differ in your prior knowledge. So, while I don't want to remove another person's merge proposal without discussion, if you agree with me you might yourself remove your own merge proposal. Or keep talking... Cheers doncram (talk) 22:25, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the info about the 4 NRHPs at Carleton College. I will remove the merge request. I would like to request that you add a Historic sites section to Cornell University that directs the reader to the campus's NRHPs (Rice Hall is the first), similar to the section at Carlton College. Thanks again. Truthanado (talk) 22:31, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Merge request removed. This is kept as a history of the discussion. Truthanado (talk) 22:36, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay thanks. And i took your suggestion and added a section to the Cornell University#Historic Sites article, just now. This was a helpful discussion and outcome, I believe. doncram (talk) 23:02, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
