Ricky Allman (24 October 1978) is an American painter and professor born in Provo Utah[1], currently an assistant professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.[2] Raised in Utah as a Mormon, his work strongly reflects his upbringing. Frequently painting on themes of the apocalypse as understood by Mormons, he uses imagery rooted in Mormon culture such as temple architecture as well as Utah inspired mountainous landscapes. However, his work would not be seen as typical of contemporary Utah or Mormon art. Ricky creates complex, detailed landscapes which evoke a sense of collage and surreal imagery. Often contrasting organic forms with geometric structures, bright rainbow like colors with dark and pale shades. A graduate of The Rhode Island School of Design, he received his MFA in painting in 2007. He has shown his work at various galleries throughout the country, including New York, Los Angeles and Miami.[3] Ricky has received numerous awards, including being named by Wallpaper* Magazine as one of the top 110 graduates of 2007 to watch.[4]
