Richmond Green Secondary School is a public secondary school in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. The school is located off of Leslie Street, just north of Elgin Mills Road. The school is a part of the York Region District School Board.

The school is a large, 3 story building attached to a public library which also serves as a school library, Richmond Green Public Library. It was named after Richmond Green, the park adjacent to the school, which has 3 soccer and 7 baseball fields, two arenas, and an outdoor skating pad.

[edit] History

Despite officially opening as a high school in 2005, the building was constructed a year earlier and was, functioning as a temporary elementary school due to the nearby Lincoln Alexander Public School experiencing construction setbacks. As a result, the elementary school was not open until the 2005-2006 school year and the students whom were to attend the school spent the first three months of the school year in their original schools before transferring to Richmond Green shortly after the winter break. The school has four "house" colours, green, black, silver and white. Each colour is given a name belonging to one of the four previous owners of the land Richmond Green stands on today. All students are divided into one of the four colours at Richmond Green in order to create teams for school events, including pep rallies, which are held at least once every year.

[edit] Inauguration

Richmond Green boasted an enrollment of approximately 350 grade 9 and 10 students and over 30 staff in their inaugural school year. Most of the grade 10 students came from nearby Bayview Secondary School and Richmond Hill High School. In its second year, the number of students increased to 580 and over 50 staff as well as grade 11 programs. Currently in its third year, numbers again increased to 850 students, with grade 12 now available.
