Richmond College

Richmond College is a secondary school in Galle, Sri Lanka. The school was started in the year 1876 by Christian Missionaries. Presently "Richmond College" is a well established institution having the reputation to be one of the best schools in Sri Lanka and undoubtedly the best school in Southern Sri Lanka. During its 131 year history the school has produced many a prominent citizens including two heads of state. The present President of Sri Lanka is an old boy of "Richmond College". Image:Crest1.jpg

The school was begun by Rev. George Bough Leader from a group of Christian Missionaries on 1876.05.01.

The school was started mainly for the development of the locals of the Southern Province and was originally called the "Galle High School". The very first Head of the academia was Rev. Langdon and the school started with eight pupils as a unisex school. The land acquired for the school by Rev. Rippon, a proprietor of the area.

Present Principal Mr. E.M.S Ekanayake. Mr Ekanayake was the Deputy Director of Education North western province. A graduate of Kelaniya University has done his MSc at Malaya University of Malaysia. He has done further studies in USA, Japan and National institute of Education of Malaysia.Mr Ekanayake has 24 years experience in the field of education.
