[edit] BDO career

Burnett won the 1995 BDO World Darts Championship beating Raymond van Barneveld by 6 sets to 3 in the final. He also reached the final in 1996, losing to Steve Beaton and 1998 - when he lost to Barneveld in an epic final which went right down to sudden-death deciding leg after reaching 6-6 in sets and 5-5 in legs.

Burnett had already won the 1994 Winmau World Masters when he clinched the Embassy title in 1995 to become the seventh player to have won both titles, and only the fourth to hold them at the same time.

[edit] PDC career

After a defeat in the first round of the 1999 BDO World Championship, Burnett switched to the Professional Darts Corporation circuit, where his overall record is not as good as his time with the BDO.

Burnett did manage to reach the final of the World Matchplay in 2001. His best results in the PDC World Championship were when reaching the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003. His world ranking has steadily fallen and he was barely in the top 50 by the end of 2006. As a result he now has to qualify for all the major PDC tournaments.

Despite having to play four matches to get there, Burnett managed to qualify for the televised stages of the 2007 PDC World Darts Championship, but subsequently lost in the first round to Alex Roy.
