[edit] Leicester City

Stearman, who is equally adept at playing at right-back or centre-back, is seen as having a bright future by many at Leicester, and signed his first professional contract in 2004. He was voted Leicester's Young Player of the Year in 2004.

He has become a regular in the first team squad at City despite his youth. He has also represented England at Under-17 and Under-18 level. Stearman joined the Foxes youth academy in 1998 having been spotted playing for Harborough Town F.C. He scored his first senior goal in a 3-1 victory over Championship side Millwall on 2 April 2005.[1]

On 31 August 2006, Leicester City rejected a bid from Sunderland for Stearman, with then manager Rob Kelly saying he was unwilling to part with one of his players he considered a hot prospect.[2] Stearman won both Player of the Year and Player's Player of the Year awards on 28 April 2008.[3] Aston Villa are currently known to be after both Stearman and teammate Joe Mattock following Leicester's relegation to League One.[4]

[edit] International

Stearman was called up by the England U21 squad on 12th November, 2007 for the 2009 European Championship qualifiers. He was selected alongside fellow Leicester youngster Joe Mattock by manager Stuart Pearce, however he was an unused substitute whilst Mattock went on to make his debut.
