Richard Roskell

Bishop Richard Butler Roskell was Bishop Emeritus of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nottingham and Titular Bishop of Abdera.
Born on 15 August 1817 at Gateacre, near Liverpool, he was ordained a priest on 9 June 1840, aged 22. The principal consecrator was Nicholas Wiseman, who would become the 1st Cardinal Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Westminster in 1850 when the Roman Catholic hierarchy was re-established in England and Wales.
On 29 July 1853, aged 36, he was appointed Bishop of Nottingham and ordained as Bishop on 21 September 1853.
On 5 July 1875, aged 57, he resigned as Bishop of Nottingham and was appointed Titular Bishop of Abdera. He died on 27 January 1883, aged 65, as Bishop Emeritus of Nottingham.
He was a priest for 42 years and a bishop for 29 years.
