Richard Milton (scientific researcher)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Milton is a British engineer and science journalist known for his outspoken opposition to Darwinism.

Milton is the researcher and author of the book The Facts of Life: Shattering the Myths of Darwinism.[1] In the book, Milton argues that there are fundamental flaws in a wide variety of scientific fields, calling into question accurate radiometric dating, uniformitarian geology, the gradualist fossil record, natural selection, transitional fossils, biogenetic law, vestigial organs, homology, and the missing link. He also makes this case at his website, Alternative Science.

Milton claims to have no religious beliefs and stresses that he is not a creationist.

[edit] Criticisms

Noted scientist Richard Dawkins has described[2] The Facts of Life as "twaddle that betrays, on almost every page, complete and total pig-ignorance of the subject at hand." Milton counters that this "is the language of a religious fundamentalist whose faith has been profaned."

Robert Todd Carroll has reviewed[3] Alternative Science, citing examples of selective thinking, ad hominem and straw man arguments, conspiracy theories, argument from ignorance and false dilemmas.

Al Case reviewed[4] Shattering the Myths of Darwinism, pointing out Miltons' reliance on straw man arguments, as well as misunderstanding scientific terminology. This review also shows that Milton relies heavily on arguments by Michael Denton (particularly his book Evolution: A Theory in Crisis, which has received negative reviews[5][6] from a scientific viewpoint) and Melvin A. Cook, who was a young Earth creationist
