Richard Long (broadcaster)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Richard Long is a former New Zealand broadcaster, best known in that country as an attractive and affable yet highly professional television newsreader, first with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation (NZBC), and then with Television New Zealand (TVNZ). He co-hosted the 6pm Network News bulletins on TV One from 1987 until early 1999 and then from late 1999 until the end of 2003, with co-anchor Judy Bailey.

For a short period in 1999, Richard presented weekend bulletins alongside Liz Gunn, with Judy Bailey and John Hawkesby fronting weekday bulletins and attracting a wide bevy of female (and male) admirers.

He left TVNZ in 2004 to pursue a freelance career, after cutbacks at the network that saw the nightly bulletin reduced from two presenters to one. Given his widely-acknowledged attractiveness and insightful thinking, finding work presents few problems for Long, or "Mr. Long" as his brigade of devoted and admiring fans respectfully call him.
