Richard Kristian Rama Gutierrez, more popularly known as Richard Gutierrez (born January 21, 1984 in Beverly Hills, California) is a major young Filipino film and television actor. Gutierrez is dubbed by the media as The Super Idol of the Philippine Cinema [1] and often called as the Primetime King[2] due to his mass appeal and a long streak of success in films and innovative television shows making him one of the highest paid actors in the Philippines.
He has been named "King of Valentine Movies" by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. after four consecutive years playing lead role in four Valentine movies, all grossing more than 100 million in the box office.[3]
Luck may be favoring Richard well in his career. He left for Los Angeles to personally accept a "Best Performer Award" from New Vision Worldwide Media at the Kodak Theater, the home of the Oscar Awards making him the "youngest recipient of this award".

Gutierrez lay low in showbiz while trying to finish his studies. After the rest, he went back into show business, and was paired with Chynna Ortaleza in different TV and movie projects.
[edit] Mulawin
Gutierrez gained nationwide popularity through the fantasy series Mulawin when it began airing on August 2, 2004 and ended on March 18, the year after, where he was paired with Angel Locsin. The series solidified the number 1 place for GMA Network with a peak of nearly 50%. The series was so popular that a feature length film was created, Mulawin: The Movie. Mulawin is about two races of winged humanoids, the Mulawin must fight the Ravena to protect the mortals from its wrath. It also tells the story of Aguiluz and Alwina, whose love for each other hinders to fulfill their mission.

The series was panned by critics for being too complicated. As to date, Sugo is the least celebrated by audience and critics with Gutierrez on the lead role. The series, however, lasted for more than 6 months having more than 120 episodes. In this series Gutierrez plays Miguel and Amante, twins separated at birth, who are destined to be mortal enemies for power and love.

From the popular graphic novel by Mars Ravelo, Gutierrez plays the celebrated superhero - similar to Super Man. The series lasted for 165 episodes (Gutierrez's second longest to date), and was praised by critics for its strong acting but panned for its storyline being to similar to Smallville.

Gutierrez's fourth lead series is loosely based on the French crime fiction series of books featuring the character Arsène Lupin and the Japanese manga and anime series Lupin III, in turn loosely based upon the original works. As of 2007, the series is the only series with Gutierrez to have the genre of comedy, even though its an action series. The series is also one of the most praised by critics.

Kamandag is from based on Carlo J. Caparas' graphic novel about a half-snake-half-human anti-hero. It is considered to be the best series of Gutierrez after his first Mulawin. The series began airing on November 19, and is set to conclude on May 5, having 118 episodes.

A series to be filmed in Dubai is Gutierrez's next project. He will be paired with Ehra Madrigal, Chynna Ortaleza, Rhian Ramos and ABS CBN talent Heart Evangelista.
[edit] For the First Time and When I Met You
GMA Network talent Richard Gutierrez inked a one-movie deal with ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema, whis his co-star in this dream project, KC Concepcion. Thereafter, KC signed on May 22, 2008, a contract for GMA Films' Valentine 2009 movie with leading man Richard Gutierrez, to be directed by Joey Reyes.[4]The Star Cinema movie will be released later this year while the GMA Films production will hit theaters on Valentine’s Day next year.[5] Specifically, For the First Time,[6][7] the first movie of KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez together with Joyce Bernal will open at theaters on August 27, 2008, while the GMA Films movie "When I Met You" directed by Jose Javier Reyes will be shown on February 11, 2009.[8]

Gutierrez had two major productions under GMA Network in 2007. Lupin, released in mid-2007 was a first-of-its-kind live action show based on a popular Japanese animation, Lupin III. His current work, Kamandag is based on a classic comic reptilian character to which by far has been the most expensive production to date. He also has numerous endorsements in 2007, the most popular being the Del Monte Fit and Right drinks that displayed his muscular physique with an up and coming stars Mariel Rodriguez and his co-GMA Network exclusive star, Marian Rivera. Rivera was picked to star with him in a Valentine's movie in 2008 - My Bestfriend's Girlfriend (BFGF). [9]

Gutierrez is the son of former Philippine cinema matinee idol Eddie Gutiérrez and former actress turned talent manager Annabelle Rama. His sister, Ruffa Gutiérrez, is a former actress and a beauty queen (Miss World Second Princess) and his brother Richie Paul is an aspiring rap singer. Gutierrez has acted alongside his other brother Elvis on Sugo, Lupin & Kamandag, his half-brother Tonton Gutiérrez is also a famous actor & was one of the most eligible bachelors of the 1980s. his other half-brother Ramon Christopher starred with him in Sugo & was also one of the most popular teen stars of the 1980s. He started as a child actor alongside his twin brother Raymond Gutierrez has worked in many movies with his famous father, and their brothers.
[edit] A Bachelor Living in a High-Rise Condo
Richard Gutierrez purchased his 186-square-meter condominium unit, on the 16th floor of One McKinley Place, in mid-2004. He moved in last December 2005, a year and a half after Budji Layug and his team started on the interior design. The dining area, directly adjacent to the entertainment den, has view of the Pacific Plaza and Essensa buildings, two other high-end residential condominium buildings in the Global City, more popularly known as The Fort. "We put benches here," says Clarisse Chiongbian. "So they won't cut you from the view. We didn't put anything tall, we didn't want anything else. He can fit as many people as he wants with benches on the side." The bathroom closet's compartments hold short-sleeved shirts, towels, undies, socks, and pambahay shirts. The two-panel, floor-to-ceiling mirror doors not only add to the overall sleek design of the place, they are very functional, especially for a bachelor who makes a living from being well-groomed. Richard says his aquarium, which uses salt water, is the "soul of the house." The wood panel on top of the aquarium can be opened up for heating and ventilation, as well as for cleaning. A maintenance team comes in every month to clean up the tank. Richard's bathroom is cleverly placed behind the huge aquarium that graces the living room. By using smoked glass on this side of the aquarium, Budji made sure Richard still has his privacy. Richard's Budji-designed bed has light underneath that give the room a dramatic effect at night, when all other light sources are off. It also creates the illusion of a floating bed against a pitch-dark wooden floor. A few inches away from the foot of the bed stands another plasma TV set, the same size as the one in the entertainment den. The state-of-the-art kitchen showcase boasts wares and appliances from Germany. "Nagpadala sila ng brochures kay Richard, mga tatlo," Annabelle recalls. "Pag may napili, order. Pag dating, saka sila gagwa ulit dito. Kaya matagal."
[edit] Role as Greenpeace Advocate
Richard Gutierrez is the local celebrity spokesperson of Greenpeace. He is helping them promote awareness to youth. Finding Greenpeace for him has been a fulfilling search. He is excited to do his own little thing for the planet or the Philippines for that matter. In fact within his family, he has already been advocating the Greenpeace movement. "Simple lang talaga ang gagawin mo. I keep telling my family to join Greenpeace. I started teaching them the simple things they can do to help the environment like unplugging electrical sockets and turning off their computers," he said. Richard teams up with Greenpeace to launch the Simple Lang campaign of the said organization. It was held last July 7 at the Conspiracy Bar with volunteer artists and musicians jamming through the night. "It’s very exciting because they are targeting billions of people around the world to help global warming. It’s a global thing and Greenpeace to me means that you’re a global citizen and we have to do our part," Richard said. He is chosen to narrate the full-length documentary.
