Richard Cole (also known as "Tricky Dicky") was a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. He was played by Ian Reddington.
He arrived in Walford in 1992 as the new Walford market inspector. He was known as a corrupt, shifty and slimy man who would pull every trick in the book to make a few pounds. He was also a notorious womaniser who had many brief flings including Bianca Jackson, Kathy Beale and Rachel Kominski.
He was a friend of Sanjay Kapoor and shared a flat with him, but they became rivals when Richard cheated Sanjay in a business deal.
Richard was also a rival of Ian Beale. He always relished in winding up Ian because he would always flirt with Ian's wife Cindy. Richard even spread rumours about having an affair with Cindy but later informed Cindy he would never go for her. Eventually in 1994 he was forced to flee Walford when Ian found out he was a councillor who had stolen £40,000 and framed one of his colleagues. Richard unexpectedly disappeared without warning, and Ian quickly discovered he had fled Walford without telling anyone that he was leaving nor where he was going. Richard would never be seen again.
