Richard Burt

Richard Burt is the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for West Worcestershire.[1]

Aged 53, Richard Burt has been a member of the Liberal Democrats since 1996. He was Campaign Manager for Matthew Green when he was elected MP for Ludlow in 2001, and Constituency Organiser for Shrewsbury & Atcham Liberal Democrats for two years. He has been a general election candidate twice before and was Liberal Democrat Group Leader on Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council for six years. He stood in the 2005 general election[2] and doubled the Shrewsbury vote to 23%. He was selected as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for West Worcestershire in August 2006.

He is married to Lorely Burt, who is the Member of Parliament for Solihull, and has a son, James and stepdaughter Emma.[3]

He has served as Vice-Chair and Regional Media Coordinator of the West Midlands Liberal Democrats. He is currently a member of the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors and was asked to act as a council campaign team mentor.

He is a founder member and trustee of the Association for Shared Parenting, keeping children in contact with both parents after separation or divorce.

Outside interests include road and fell running and rugby. He has finished in the top 200 in the London Marathon and has been Vice-Chairman of a national league rugby club.
