[edit] Background
Notable for charitable service to community: for example as senator then executive council member, of the University of London, and governor, of Birkbeck, University of London. Former chair, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital Artbeat; vice-chair, CBS Counselling; vice-president, French Reserve Officers' Association; diving officer, Venturers Club; trustee (now life member), SCAS (Society for Companion Animal Studies); trustee (now strategy committee member), Zoological Society of London [1]; the Trans-Thames Tree Warden for RBKC and Wandsworth[2] [3].
He remains a trustee of several organisations, including the Royal Institution[4], the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies[5], ANOLIR (French National Association of Liaison Officers)[6], and the Chelsea Society[7].
[edit] Political
Previously involved with European Union activities: as regular IGC delegate and Federal Union [8] committee member, now European Movement life member. Also a member of the Mid-Atlantic Club, and founder member of the Social Science Grapevine, which was merged into "SOSIG - Social sciences" which was then merged into Intute, he has lectured on a range of subjects in both EU and non-EU countries. Now apparently politically independent - he was, however, a former member of both the Democratic Party (United States) and the Liberal Democrats (UK).
[edit] Family
Born in Singapore of French/Russian/German/English/Scottish/Irish ancestry resulting from multiple upheavals and revolutions [9]. Recent relatives include a great great uncle, William Melville[10], who was allegedly the first chief of the British secret service, forerunner of MI5; and another, Pyotr Nikolayevich Wrangel, who commanded the White Armies of the south at the end of the Russian Civil War. Currently, close family members are scattered from Hong Kong to Hawaii, and from Cape Town to Kuwait, with most based between the United States and France.
[edit] Education
Educated in England, the U.S., and France - in Scarsdale, New York[11], at The Oratory School, and the universities of Edinburgh, Buckingham, Paris, and London with a collection of undergraduate and post-graduate diplomas and degrees.
[edit] Networks
Mensa member belonging to both the French Paratroops and Mountain troops[12] associations - he is also a member of several very high IQ societies such as the Triple Nine Society, the Glia Society, OATHS (One in A THousand Society), and the Ultranet. Avocations include canids, and scuba-diving - obviously also very interested in the theory and practice of social networks[13]
