[edit] New User - learning - observing

If they really thought about it, honest people would admit that much of history, archeology and many similar fields are only an interpretation based on the most recalcitrant remaining cultural ephemera and detritus... and can not be considered complete, with out bias or totally objective.

Modern life is no different, but we have the "oportunity" to preserve some of the most fleeting cultural ephemera... the interconected ramblings of souls in conversation: attempting to define, discern or establish "truth" and "meaning". We could contextualise in our own words, the meanings of these phenomena, the ephemeral cultural distractions that occupy our time and energies.

It's funny to think that historians would love to know what or how historic peoples thought, what was their motivation and how did they rationalise their existance? But observe that here on wikipedia, these very topics are oft dissmissed as "cruft", or not significant or not notable. The basis of this assertive aproach appears to be that this material is not (yet) historically recalcitrant or is not recognised by some other, larger (presumably more authorative) identity. But this is the ephemera that is our lives. This is the ephemera the historian tries to interpret from the scrap of leather tied around a carved bone. Why did they do it? What does it mean? What did others think?

Are these people trapped in plato's cave: assidiously, heroically, stoically and pedantically interpreting the shadows with the rules supplied by guards at the mouth - unwilling or unable to believe they can look outside? Or do they see themselves as the guards where, like many guardians before them, their own pets are allowed to wander the dogshow on the cave wall?

How will I spend my time here and who will I become?

There is a lot of rubbish here....

I chose Ribosome as my user name as I think my intial anon stumblings re the ICH debate led to the term "meat puppet" being thrown about... probably directed at me... so I figured I would choose a useful protein as my monicer for future use.

Derivative → Function_(mathematics) → before a reader gets to deriviative they really need to understand function. Could this be facilitated by use of ballon text with the meanings of math notation in plain english? Also really need to hammer the connection between symbols and graphs - need to use the word "map"?

ON the function page the quote "A function need not involve numbers. An example of a function that does not use numbers is the function that assigns to each nation its current capital. In this case Capital(France) = Paris." is a good non math example - maybe move this up and similar soft intro material introduced before the low white space symbology?
