[edit] Bollywood
I'm just wondering Riana how if this website is invalid that they have an abundance of bang up to date images the very day the event happened? Regularly tens of images of events that happened earlier in the day are uploaded to the site with many different angles of people and events. Now if they didn't own such images and they were all copywrighted, I seriously doubt they would have been able to get hold of them so quickly and to have many different images of an event or people rather than just one or two -sometimes they have at least twenty and is it quite feasible. Is it so impossible that they do employ photographers in Mumbai who attend these events and they only use certain promo photos or screenshots to support it? It would be an incredible shame to black list the license because of the wrongly uploaded screenshots or promo photos when the majority , yes the majority appear to be amateur shots of a lower quality. All I can suggest is that it is strictly written into the agreement not to upload screenshots or promo photos under the license but it is clear that you've made up your mind, perhaps because you are as tired as I am of having to defend it. Now you never fully know who you are dealing with online but did Devendra honestly appear like some sort of mastermind criminal to you? I spent weeks trying to help wikipedia with this it is ridiculous how this has turned out. I seriously have doubts that we would ever get any images of these people if this is how licences are going to be cynically treated. Best of luck with your exams anyway you also must have had a gutful ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 12:36, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] why you should be an admin
Hi Riana, regarding this edit to your userpage, here are some reasons why you should become an admin again, starting with serious and becoming ludicrous as the list goes on:
1. You can block vandals, POV-pushers, etc.
2. You can delete pages that don't satisfy notability or are otherwise unsuitable for Wikipedia.
3. You can view deleted pages.
4. You can protect and unprotect pages.
5. You get to go through backlogs of things only admins can deal with. :)
6. Access to wikipedia-admin-en IRC or whatever they call it.
7. People will tell you that you protected the wrong version of a page.
8. You get to explain to people why you deleted their page or image.
9. You get to go through backlogs of things only admins can deal with. :(
10. People will volunteer to "improve" your userpage and/or talk page, without you even needing to ask them!
10. Your inbox will be overflowing with messages of praise.
Seriously, I think you did a good job as an admin, and I would support you if you ever put yourself up to another RfA, but I think you understand why I'm not interested in the position myself.
Hope all is well. Love, --Kyoko 17:03, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Just a (not-so-helpful) suggestion. --Kyoko 16:01, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Triptych May-June, 1973.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Triptych May-June, 1973.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 19:38, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:AN discussion
Just wanted to note that I reverted your removal of the discussion with a reason given here, and as I stated if you disagree with my reasoning, feel free to revert me back. I figure its unfair to revert a good-faith action like that in real-time without notifying you :) —Dark•Shikari[T] 09:17, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Wait, this is confusing me a bit. It is "defending each other" to remove threads about media portrayal of Wikipedia...? I haven't followed the whole Durova crapfest that much but your reaction seems somewhat kneejerk. —Dark•Shikari[T] 09:18, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- I re-reverted. Sorry - I'm not censoring - can't exactly censor an issue that's been discussed internally for days (and will probably continue to be discussed... ) but I don't see any reason why we have to give so much credence to a slashdot article written by a banned troll. If we all practised meatball:DefendEachOther more, we'd have a lot less problems ;) ~ Riana ⁂ 09:20, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- But that's ignoring the real issue; Slashdot is merely a news aggregator--the fact that the story has showed up in the news (the article is a Register piece, not a Slashdot piece) is unrelated to any particular banned troll. —Dark•Shikari[T] 09:21, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Riana, I am also a bit concerned about the removal of the thread. While I agree that the whole Durova has been blown way out of proportion, removal of discussion like that seems to reinforce the POV of the article about Wikipedia and its policies. I ask you to reconsider your actions here. Thanks, Jeffpw 09:22, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Jeff, feel free to restore. I really don't care that much. ~ Riana ⁂ 09:23, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, that was my main thought--it isn't particularly important, but the removal of the thread did seem to fall exactly in line with what the troll was trying to say... which isn't exactly what we want to do either! Sorry if I caused any drama; I didn't intend to. Looking back on the whole Durova issue, it looks like a total SNAFU. —Dark•Shikari[T] 09:24, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- No drama caused. I just can't be screwed arguing about this, bit amazed that others still wish to. ~ Riana ⁂ 09:26, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
- This tidying and hiding away of Wikipedia's problems is what caused this mess in the first place. We have to learn to face up to problems and not allowing people to read criricism of the project is not helpful. Giano 09:28, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Please restore this page. The user is using it as an excuse to ask for unblock again, after abusing it in the first place. If I could venture an opinion, you might want to consider not deleting user talk pages, but, if they have the tag, then moving it to the user page. The Evil Spartan (talk) 01:54, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Umm. This is largely moot, as Riana voluntarily handed in her sysop bit recently. She had deleted the page per policy as a >1 month temporary talk page of an indefblocked user. How and ever, I've just restored the history so other folks can review it when determining unblock, etc - Alison ❤ 02:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- May I ask where this policy is located? If the policy allows for the deletion of user talk pages, then it is flawed. The Evil Spartan (talk) 02:07, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it's largely governed by the deletion policy, but also see the text on Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages - Alison ❤ 02:14, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Word up playa hatea? Wiw-gigty, I did'th scribe - ah, whatever I can't do it. Anyway, I wrote you a poem/rap, I think I missed the episode where you gave up Sysop tools, when was this? What is happening around here? Dudddeee.. Dfrg_msc 02:55, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Could you check something?
Hi Riana, is this of any concern (link)? I looked at the contributions so far and nothing raises any red flags at the moment. But if John Batiste is editing his own article, should we know that? If he's not actually General Batiste, should we know that too? Or should I just ignore, unless the edits prove to be problematic? If you don't have time to look into this, could you tell me where to make inquiries (if any need to be made). R. Baley (talk) 04:28, 11 December 2007 (UTC) Edited to add: I went ahead and left a note on his user talk page (diff or just User talk:Jbatiste). R. Baley (talk) 05:45, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Heya, have you tried WP:COIN? The note you left looks good - I didn't see any massive problem with his edits, they're a bit skewed but could probably be integrated into the rest of it. I'll keep an eye and see how it goes. ~ Riana ⁂ 11:00, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, I guess I'll just see how it goes at this point. R. Baley (talk) 17:47, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] OTRS question
Riana, I recently corresponded with the user Laser braids (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log), who has uploaded quite a few high-quality photos. Some people expressed concern that these photos were possibly copyright violations due to their quality, but I've confirmed via e-mail that the uploader is, in fact, the photographer & copyright holder Sarah Brannen. I'd like to place this confirmation on file with OTRS, but I don't want to have to add a ticket number to every single upload by this user (she intends to continue contributing photos, though I'm trying to point her toward the Commons). Would it better to leave a note on her (currently redlinked) userpage with an OTRS ticket number confirming her identity? Your wisdom would be appreciated. Videmus Omnia Talk 17:45, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi Riana, you've got mail. So do I... stuff piling up... eep! :)--Kyoko 15:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
What. Have. You. Done?!! Dfrg_msc 10:32, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
You deleted my db-bio tag without notifying me.
I tagged this guy as being non-notable because there is NO assertion of notability. Just being a politician does NOT make you notable. Otherwise, there would be a million articles on these people alone. To be notable, you have to DO something. If you disagreed with the db-bio tag, the proper thing to do is to put your own hangon tag. I'm going to tag this guy on afd. As far as I can tell from the article, all he has done is:
- work as a professor
- work as a journalist
- work as the head of several different organizations
Who is this guy? Why would anyone want to know about him? This is what you have to put in the article. Otherwise, Wikipedia becomes a who's-who. As I understand it, that's NOT the idea. Cbdorsett (talk) 12:04, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Read the article. Being in a cabinet of an administration provides notability. Riana is an administrator, and she can remove db-tags. Administrators don't have to contact you if they remove db-tags. I highly and others highly suggest you read A7 and BIO policies. Miranda 17:07, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Actually I contacted you within about 5 minutes of removing the tag. Good luck with the AfD. ~ Riana ⁂ 23:31, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, in all real actuality, anyone can remove the tags as long as they didn't create the article. Not that I go around adhering to policy, but sometimes my keyboard can be used for good, instead of evil. the_undertow talk 00:45, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Another OTRS question
Hi, Riana! Please see [4]...could you please look up the details on that permission? What license was granted, and was it a blanket permission for images from that site, or limited to specific pictures? Thanks! Videmus Omnia Talk 17:30, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry for the additional dumb question, but how should I tell him to tag those images? It looks like he has the ticket number from the e-mail as opposed to the ticket ID I see used to tag images with {{PermissionOTRS}}...is there a way to tell the ID from the ticket number? And what's the difference between the two? Videmus Omnia Talk 00:39, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- So ID and ticket number are interchangeable? Videmus Omnia Talk 02:59, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image question
Hi Riana, I have a quick question: If the copyright holder of an image wanted to restrict the availability of his email so that it wasn't on the image page, but could be obtained by anyone interested through OTRS, is that possible? Thanks, R. Baley (talk) 19:57, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

- I'd probably oppose myself - just for uber-lulz! ~ Riana ⁂ 13:21, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- I considered nominating myself as an admin, and either declining the nomination or accepting it but opposing myself, as an April Fool's joke. I decided I'd better not because someone might find it WP:POINTy. --Kyoko 15:03, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
