Again, welcome! - Flockmeal 04:09, Apr 9, 2004 (UTC)
Sorry-- I never got back to you from before about the glitter article I edited. I took out the line about the gay community because its premise was unfounded, and furthermore, its placement in the article drew an erroneous link between adult females and gay men. While some gay men undoubtedly exhibit feminine characteristics, they (we) are by no means women. Also, some (in fact, most) transvestites who might make use of feminine dress and makeup are in fact heterosexual. I was just trying to dispel some potential wrong assumptions.
Thanks--

[edit] Achaea
I found a decent map of Achaea at this web site. But I'm not really sure what to do with images regarding proper permission. If you could help me with that a little, I'll put the map into the page. Thanks. --Spout 08:50, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, I just looked at that map again, and I realized that it's not all that great. (Mostly because it identifies skiing and beach areas - not exactly good for a medieval principality) Sorry for wasting any of your time with this and I'll keep looking around. --Spout 08:57, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi, what exactly is wrong with my edit in the article Super Size Me? - The content or is the sentence in a bad language or something? There's really hard evidence that Spurlock took anabolics, so I thought writing It seems... would be fine. --Tobias Schmidbauer 15:30, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

I have posted merger discussion templates to all the pages. I have on a prior occasion done an AfD for an article that I believe should have been merged. At that time, I was advised that Merger discussions were not appropriate for AfD nominations and, if I wanted to merge, I should just incorporate the merged materials and then do a redirect. That's what I did. Needless to say, the conflicting signals I am getting on this is somewhat aggravating. One question I have is at what point after the merger items are posted, and assuming everyone agrees to the merger, can I reinsert the redirect? Jtmichcock 15:22, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comics
Yeah I noticed that we could've taken the talk page of Omega-Levels to an extreme level there before someone edited the entire thing out. Anyways, Civil War looks interesting enough, though if Squirrel Girl does transcend into a Galacti-Squirrel, my God I'm there. That's something I just have to see.
Decimation I liked even though they screwed it up with Archangel. Is he depowered or a 198. I'm enjoying the 198 storyline for some odd odd reason although you can't tell me that in the there were only 1, 980000 mutants in the world. And killing off some of the depowered characters in New X-Men vol. 2 was kinda cheap... especially since the only properly introduced one was Tag. I give Marvel at least 6 months before the mutant populace grows to its once thriving size and the depowered become the powered again.
Is the Illuminati part of the Civil War storyline do you know? Granted I've only been reading the Exiles World Tour of late.
As for Marvel Zombies... gotta love the zombie takes of the covers ay. I especially love the X-Men one and the Spider-Man wedding one. Heh. Gruesomely creepily cool. Explains why I like Resident Evil, Silent Hill and some of George A Romero's movies. Originalsinner 10:57, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pop-ups
See here You can remove the line div[id*="popup"] in the css file and restart the browser to make it work. But the adblock would be less effective. Dodo bird 07:27, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
Are you using this. If so, go to my computer>c:/>doucuments and settings>your user name>application data>mozilla>firefox>profile>xxxxx.default>chrome> Open usercontent.css with notepad. scroll down to div[id*="popup"]' and remove the line. Save and restart your browser.
I believe the adblock plugin is different from the adblock method mentioned in the above link. You are not using the usercontent.css adblock method. So, the problem probably lies elsewhere.

[edit] Beware of Tobias Schmidbauer
Tobis Schmidbauer also vandalizes the German wikipedia; e.g. the article on Guantanamo-Bay and organic farming. In the article on Guantanamo-Bay he changed a headline without giving a reason over a time of at least two months. He is the only user in the discussion forum on Guantanamo-Bay who believes that his weird behavior is correct. He is a 19-year old student who claims on his German wikipedia site that he is Donald Duck. When a vandalism notice was issued, he suggested two articles of this person for deletion as a revenge within half an hour after he found the notice. When the author of the two articles (a renowned scientist) opened the discussion on the deletion he found at this time only a masturbation photo which appeared to him to be posted by Schmidbauer (in fact the photo is from an anonymous IP)!!! He is also calling this person a revisionist and other insults. Two German admins endorsed this behavior, they didn't delete these insults, instead they blocked the author who just tried to keep an article free of vandalism and who removed Schmidbauer's nonsense and insults.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.55.81.58 (talk) 22:06, 8 March, 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

[edit] Edits by --Michael C. Price on Afshar experiment page
-
- Dear Rhymeless, --Michael C. Price insists on using unsubstantiated claims without proper references on the article page. Regardless of the nature of his claims, I have requested that he does so, but instead he has produced at best irrelevant quotes from non-peer-reviewed sources. His edit follows:
Though Afshar's work is still the subject of ongoing interpretation and discussion, a significant portion of the scientific community is of the opinion that Afshar's experiment does not refute complementarity.
Some general criticisms are:
- Bohr's philosophical views on the Complementarity Principle are generally seen in accordance with the Schrodinger wave equation. Since the latter is obeyed in Afshar's experiment it is not obvious how complementarity can be violated.[1][2]
- The modern understanding of quantum decoherence and its destruction of quantum interference provides a mechanism for understanding the appearance of wavefunction collapse and the transition from quantum to classical. As such there is no need, in the decoherence view, for an a priori introduction of a classical-quantum divide as enshrined by complementarity. Any experiment that claims to violate complementarity needs to address this issue.
As Michael claims, those statments are supposedly "popular views" that preexisted my experiment, and as such must be present in peer-reviewed publication predating my work. All I have asked him to do is to provide such valid ref.s but he has persistently avoided doing so and instead engaged in personal attacks. He seems to have a lot of time on his hands to be on Wikipeida constatntly, but I don't. This is turning to oneupmanship, and I don't have time for such antcis. Maybe he would heed your request. Thanks!-- Prof. Afshar 13:51, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- P.S. I will be discussing this issue with Michael Price on the article talk page, and would highly appreciate if you could monitor our discussion and interject when you deem fit. I'm afraid it might get a little testy, as Michael has been persistent on personal attacks. Thanks very much for your help. Best regards.-- Prof. Afshar 17:02, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Basque Portal?
Kaixo, I'm contacting you because you figure in Category:User eu, meaning that you speak some Basque. You must therefore be Basque yourself or have an intense connection with the Basque Country.
I am thinking that maybe was a good idea to create a Portal (or maybe a Wikiproject? or both?) on the Basque theme but I feel such kind of project requires more than just one person.
If you are interested, please comment in my talk page.

[edit] Image:Virgincola.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Virgincola.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 22:12, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] You're... leaving?
Sorry to hear that you're leaving Wikipedia. The dissolution of Esperanza hurt everybody involved, not just you and me. We are all injured in terms of our sense of community and our editcount.
Things might change. For several times I've left Wikipedia but at last come back; because this "conservatory of knowledge" has so many defects that, being a scientist (or just a civilized person, anyways), I can't stand from correcting them wherever I could.
Really, not having a community of partners on Wikipedia doesn't matter. I don't have strong ones. The closest are Firsfron and Aili, which I contact them only, say, once a week or so at most.
Maybe you'll change your mind in the future =] Just focus on anything you feel comfortable in life and enjoy it. Wikipedia shouldn't be everything. We all welcome you to come back in the future.
Regards, --Deryck C. 10:19, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- It can be really tough, when you're not feeling good about Wikipedia anymore. It totally makes sense that when something is no longer fun, one wouldn't want to spend time with it. If you do leave, I hope you have a lovely time elsewhere, but you might consider taking a break at first, and seeing how you feel when you come back. If you still feel like it's not worth it to be here, then you know what to do, but you might also be refreshed by some time away, and feel better about the encyclopedia. Regardless, I hope all goes well. -- Natalya 17:49, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- Hi Tim, I saw your message on the Stress alerts page, and I thought I'd share my thoughts. Yes, now that Esperanza is gone, there isn't a central location for community, but I find that the community spirit still exists in a more diffuse form, centered around articles, Wikiprojects, and between users with shared interests. If you're seeking a sense of community, I suggest finding some topic that deeply interests you, and start working on articles within that topic, including interacting with users on related talk pages. You'd be surprised how quickly you rekindle that community spirit in this way.
-
- I can understand that you would want to leave if Wikipedia is only becoming a source of stress for you. Like Natalya, I suggest taking a break if my earlier ideas don't work out for you. I'm sure that you would be welcome to return if you take a short break, or even a long one. If you do choose to leave, I wish you well. --Kyoko 19:07, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
I read your note on the Stres Alert page. I've left and come back. My involvement has varied. Being part of Wiki doesn't have to be a big commitment. Just do what you want to do now and again. And if you ever want a chat and a nice cup of tea, then pop on over to my talk page. And bring some biscuits! Warm regards SilkTork 19:32, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza didn't die, it was simply absorbed
Most of the people from Esperanza are still here, as are most of the departments that were under the Esperanza umbrella.
If you miss the clique of folks who hung out and chatted there, you can endeavor to reunite them in an IRC chat room, or even on your own user talk page.
Or just join a new clique. Esperanza was a fun project, but Wikipedia is HUGE and has no scarcity of fun projects, nor does it lack fun people to collaborate with.
If you need help finding a fun project (not necessarily a WikiProject), let me know.
The Transhumanist 22:15, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- I don't join cliques easily. I don't really like IRC since it leaves one's IP address exposed... I think I've functionally abandoned Wikipedia as a new content editor. Some things just can't be helped. -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 04:46, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

He frequently performs with concerts, with a two-piece backing band.
Sveinson performed most recently as the closing act for the Telus World Ski and Snowboarding Festival. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Danny Sveinson (2nd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Danny Sveinson during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Junak symbol.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Junak symbol.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:04, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A request for your consideration regarding CAT:AOTR
Hello fellow Wikipedia administrators open to recall category member! |
---|
I am leaving you this message because recent events have given me concern. When Aaron Brenneman and I, and others, first developed this category well over a year ago, we visualized it as a simple idea. A low hassle, low bureaucracy process. We also visualized it as a process that people would come to trust, in fact as a way of increasing trust in those admins who chose to subscribe to the notion of recall. The very informal approach to who is qualified to recall, what happens during it, and the process in general were all part of that approach. But recent events have suggested that this low structure approach may not be entirely effective. More than one of the recent recalls we have seen have been marred by controversy around what was going to happen, and when. Worse, they were marred by some folk having the perception, rightly or wrongly, that the admin being recalled was trying to change the rules, avoid the process, or in other ways somehow go back on their word. This is bad. It's bad for you the admin, bad for the trust in the process, and bad for the community as a whole. I think a way to address this issue is to increase the predictability of the process in advance. I have tried to do that for myself. In my User:Lar/Accountability page, I have given pretty concrete definitions of the criteria for recall, and of the choices I can make, and of the process for the petition, and of the process for other choices I might make (the modified RfC or the RfAr). I think it would be very helpful if other admins who have voluntarily made themselves subject to recall went to similar detail. It is not necessary to adopt the exact same conditions, steps, criteria, etc. It's just helpful to have SOME. Those are mine, fashion yours as you see fit, I would not be so presumptuous as to say mine are right for you. In fact I urge you not to just adopt mine, as I do change them from time to time without notice, but instead develop your own. You are very welcome to start with mine if you so wish, though. But do something. If you have not already, I urge you to make your process more concrete, now, while there is no pressure and you can think clearly about what you want. Do it now rather than later, during a recall when folk may not react well to perceived changes in process or commitment. Further, I suggest that after you document your process, that you give a reference to it for the benefit of other admins who may want to see what others have done. List it in this table as a resource for the benefit of all. If you use someone else's by reference rather than copy, I suggest you might want to do as Cacharoth did, and give a link to a specific version. Do you have to do these things? Not at all. These are suggestions from me, and me alone, and are entirely up to you to embrace or ignore. I just think that doing this now, thinking now, documenting now, will save you trouble later, if you should for whatever reason happen to be recalled. I apologise if this message seems impersonal, but with over 130 members in the category, leaving a personal message for each of you might not have been feasible, and I feel this is important enough to violate social norms a bit. I hope that's OK. Thanks for your time and consideration, and best wishes. Larry Pieniazek NOTE: You are receiving this message because you are listed in the Wikipedia administrators open to recall category. This is a voluntary category, and you should not be in it if you do not want to be. If you did not list yourself, you may want to review the change records to determine who added you, and ask them why they added you. |
...My guinea pigs and the "A"s through "O"s having felt this message was OK to go forward with (or at least not complained bitterly to me about it :) ), today it's the turn of the "P"s through "S"s! I'm hoping that more of you chaps/chapettes will point to their own criteria instead of mine :)... it's flattering but a bit scary! :) Also, you may want to check back to the table periodically, someone later than you in the alphabet may have come up with a nifty new idea. ++Lar: t/c 04:17, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Typo redirect French langauge
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on French langauge, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because French langauge is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).
