Note: There is a disagreement between the Town of Westerly and RIDOT about the exact routing of Route 91 in the Town. The route provided is the Town's route. Please see a more detailed explanation under Notes.

[edit] Notes

The town of Westerly and the State of Rhode Island have conflicting information on the western terminus of Route 91.

The disagreement begins at the intersection of Tower Street and Oak Street. State maintenance leaves Oak Street here and heads down Tower Street to U.S. Route 1. Because of this, the State considers Route 91 to go this way, ending at U.S. Route 1. The Town, on the other hand, considers Route 91 to stay straight on Oak Street (maintained by the Town at this point), ending at Route 3. The Town's route is shown in this article since the Town appears to be the only one who has put up signage:

  • There is no signage on US 1 marking the beginning of the State's route of Route 91 at Tower Street.
  • There is signage on Route 3 marking the beginning of the Town's route of Route 91 at the intersection of Oak Street.
  • There is a trailblazer assembly on Tower Street northbound at the intersection with Oak Street that points Route 91 both ways, instead of just to the right as the State's route would go.
